Avena Sativa may sound exotic, but it actually just comes from oats, indeed a component of bread and muesli! But in our daily life, in the form of Avena Sativa oat extract, it can also be found in hand, hair and body care.
Oats are an annual grain and are native to Southeast Europe and Southwest Asia. Of all grains, oats contain the highest fat and protein content. Oats are also rich in many vitamins such as vitamins K, E, B1, B2 and B6, cobalt and magnesium. Ever since 2000 BC. the Egyptians and Arabs used oats for skin care. More recently, oatmeal baths are more commonly recommended and used to treat skin inflammations such as eczema.
Avena Sativa kernel extract is found in the core of the grain and has antioxidant, calming and anti-inflammatory properties. On the skin, it proves its effect in a number of dermatological conditions such as itching (pruritus), insect bites, atopic dermatitis, skin inflammations such as acneiform dermatitis. In addition, it is also more commonly found in sun protection products.
A clinical study in 2015 showed that Avena Sativa applied to the skin has significant clinical effects on skin dryness, scaling, roughness and itching intensity. Avena sativa is well tolerated, can be used safely on all skin types and is also suitable for children. For people with dry, itchy or sensitive skin, it will definitely make life more enjoyable.
